We were given these two mugs to sell, from the collection of a former fireman at Gloucester. Seems to be slipware, both labelled GWRS (and not GWSR!). No marks underneath, good condition.
Probably sold by the then "Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Society" which existed in the 1970s to try and save the Honeybourne Line. When unsuccessful in persuading BR to keep the line open, the GWRS transformed itself from a railway supporters' society into a railway owning and restoration society and we know what happened then! The mugs won't be from Didcot I guess as the Great Western Society uses the acronym "GWS" so the Glos Warks Rly Society is probably the source. If so, an interesting and increasingly valuable part of our Glos Warks Railway history.
Ah, that makes sense. They look new-ish, and the donor is the former landlord of the Bell, where the first ever GWSR meeting was held. But we are trying to raise funds for Broadway, so any offers? I have never seen any others like it.
